This department started functioning at the beginning of the hospital and is caring for all types of medical illnesses. We have a regular OP department including casualty. In the inpatient services, we have facilities for ICU, ICCU, ordinary and general wards admissions and management. We promptly respond to emergencies, providing immediate care and, when necessary, implementing assisted ventilation and resuscitation measures. We also have comprehensive arrangements in place to ensure the well-being of unconscious and critically ill patients. Apart from general medicine emergencies, we deal with emergencies in respiratory diseases & snakebites.Regularly, we see in the OP cases of fever, breathlessness, cough, chest pain and oedema, jaundice, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, giddiness, vertigo, fatigue, and loss of consciousness.

Many patients come with multiple system involvements. Following the initial examination, we conduct necessary investigations and promptly diagnose patients who can be managed as outpatients (OP), providing them with appropriate care. Some patients are scheduled for review appointments, while those requiring inpatient treatment are admitted and receive follow-up care.

Our dedicated medical team conducts regular ward rounds, involving the entire staff, and makes necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. In addition, we have casualty officers on standby for immediate emergency response to ensure that emergency calls receive prompt attention. When patients require specialized opinions, we facilitate cross-consultations, gather expert opinions, discuss problems with relevant consultants, and collaboratively plan patient management. In addition, senior staff take 24hrs. call duties. This department supervises and organizes specialty clinics for diabetes, neuropathy, and institutional check-ups. We also conduct camps in rural areas. We have fully equipped laboratory services and a blood bank working always.

Nephrology

The Nephrology department offers advanced diagnostic procedures to identify early forms of kidney (renal) disease and therapies to avoid complications of chronic kidney disease. We also provide medical evaluations of kidney stone disease, and diagnosis and therapy for managing high blood pressure. The department which houses state-of-the-art dialysis technology has a multidisciplinary team of specialists providing follow-up care, patient education seminars, and nutritional counseling to help guide patients through every phase of their dialysis treatment. Facilities for renal biopsy, Biochemical Bacteriological and Immunological investigations as well as Radiological and Ultra-sonological investigations are provided.

The Artificial Kidney dialysis setup is the most modern with 3 latest high-tech Dialysis machines with U.P.S., deionized water supply, and reverse Osmosis system. Round-the-clock care is given to patients with acute renal failure, chronic renal failure, poisoning, and those in preparation for Renal Transplantation by well-trained nursing staff and dialysis technicians. The government of Kerala has given recognition to our hospital for Renal Transplantation. A team of experienced and well-trained Transplant Surgeons and Anesthetists are available for doing the transplantation surgeries. Well-equipped and modern Post-Transplant Intensive care room having well-trained nursing staff is also available.

Cardiology

A full-fledged Cardiac Centre with a state-of-the-art CATH lab and the latest equipment like computerized E.C.G., 2-D Echo Cardiography, Computerised Stress Analysis Equipment, Bedside Monitors, etc., provide better care and supervision for patients with ailing hearts. Physiotherapy

ENT, Head & Neck Surgery

All ENT, Head, and Neck operations are done in this hospital including Sinus endoscopic, Micro laryngeal, and Micro ear Surgeries. Ear, nose, and throat specialists provide comprehensive head and neck oncological services; complete diagnostic and surgical services for ear disorders; diagnosis and treatment of nasal and sinus disorders; and plastic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck.

All ENT, Head, and Neck operations are done in this hospital including Sinus endoscopic, Micro laryngeal, and Micro ear Surgeries. The hospital houses the most sophisticated system available for voice evaluation and provides physicians, speech-language pathologists, and voice coaches with an accurate, reliable means of objectively measuring, documenting and evaluating methods for diagnosing and treating voice disorders. Children and adults with severe to profound hearing loss who are unable to benefit from conventional hearing aids are being treated and rehabilitated at the hospital. Patients who suffer from balance disorders are also treated here.

Neurology

The Neurology Department of Fathima Hospital provides the diagnosis and management of disorders of the nervous system. Such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, the treatable causes of coordination problems and dementia in aging patients, and the effects of trauma to the brain and spinal cord. It is also involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of strokes. A state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit constitutes the neurology wing with ultramodern equipment for patient resuscitation. Non-invasive monitoring, and facilities for procedures like plasmapheresis and intrathecal therapeutics under total aseptic conditions.

The expert team deals with Acute Emergencies like Ischemic and Hemorrhagic stroke syndromes, Acute and sub-acute demyelinating diseases, Status Epilepticus, Status migrainous, Acute Meningo-Eucephalitides and Metalolic-Toxic Encephalopathies. The ICU management of neurological emergencies is complemented by Haemodialysis. As in the case of sedative drug intoxications or hyperviscosity syndromes, and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitator apparatus, as appropriate. Essential costly drugs like IV gamma globulin, Interferon & Ia and Ib, Methyl preducsolonic, IV phosphenytoin, and IV Acyclovir are made available to our patients in our pharmacy, on a round-the-clock basis. The Neurology Outpatient department caters to patients referred from all the neighboring districts, in addition to the city patient population. Separate clinics for headache, movement disorders, epilepsy, strokes, and metabolic and genetic neurology are being conducted on all days.

Well-Equipped Neurochemistry Lab
The well-equipped Neurochemistry lab, the EEG, EMG, NCS, CT Scan, and Colour Doppler. Our hospital provides excellent supportive research services to our neurology team. A step ahead of other hospitals in the city, we offer the facility of CT Angiography. Which is often made useful to patients with acute strokes. Last but not least, the staff of the neurology department are adequately trained in their respective portfolios and the documentation of records in both the IP & OP sections is meticulously performed. Radiology & Imagine Science

The Department of Radiology offers, a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic services. Vascular and interventional services are available to treat a wide variety of vascular and non-vascular diseases. Stereotactic and ultrasound-guided fine needle and core breast biopsy procedures are performed, providing rapid diagnosis without surgery. Our department is equipped with all the modern diagnostic facilities like X-ray, Ultrasound with Color Doppler, CT Scan & a state-of-the-art Cathlab for intervention. Nuclear Medicine services include radiopharmaceutical imaging and the latest monoclonal antibody imaging. The department also performs conventional X-ray and barium contrast procedures, bone densitometry, and ultrasound Radiation Oncology, including teletherapy is available.

Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology deals with disorders of the digestive system which includes the esophagus (food pipe), stomach, small and large intestines, gall bladder, biliary tracts, and pancreas. The field of Hepatology deals with diseases of the liver. Comprehensive care for diseases of the esophagus, stomach, large and small intestines, and rectum is provided with an emphasis on the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel diseases including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Our facilities include a complete modern Care Endoscopy Unit that performs all procedures like Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopies, Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy, and ERCP. Patients include those with pre-cancer or cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, G.I. bleeding disorders, strictures, or obstructions of the G.I. tract, and stones or strictures within the common bile duct. Our staff is made up of experienced faculty physicians and nurses specializing in gastrointestinal endoscopies. The Department of Orthopaedics at Fathima Hospital is a full-fledged Department with Modern Operation Theatres and equipment required for managing all kinds of Orthopaedic cases. Our facilities include a C-arm, Arthroscope, etc. The casualty department of Fathima Hospital is a 24hrs. non-stop department with all facilities to manage Emergency Orthopaedic and non-orthopaedic cases like Head Injury, Blunt Injury abdomen, chest injury, etc. All necessary Medico-legal formalities like issuing wound certificates, treatment certificates, disability certificates, etc. are done by experienced medical officers and administrative staff. Gynaecology & Obstetrics

Our well-organized labor room along with the NICU and OT complex is an asset to any institution. NICU care is given to very pre-term babies. Complicated surgeries with cardiac and medical problems are usually managed here. Epidural analgesia for labor is being practiced. Most advanced uterine artery embolization for Severe PPH and those cases contraindicated for usual Hysterectomy is being practiced here by the interventional cardiologist Dr. P.K. Ashokan. Laparoscopic surgeries are done for infertility workups as well as for other routine cases. Most modern infertility workup is carried out in this hospital with the help of Dr. Gopinathan. This institution is only lacking in IVF and ICSI in this field.

Urology & Andrology

Varicocele is one of the causes of male factor infertility which can be treated through surgical correction. The commonly applied method is a surgical technique named Testicular Vein legation (TV ligation) which gives an improvement in semen quality with marginal pregnancy rate. Sadly, many of the patients are permanently rendered sterile, and up to thirty percent of them experience some complications like re-appearance of Varicocele or collection of fluid around the testicles called Hydrocele. Few surgeons offer laparoscopic TV ligation. But even in this case the pregnancy rate and complication rate are no better than TV ligation. The reasons for this poor revolt and high complication are the inability to identify and preserve the major blood supply to the testis and its lymphatic and incomplete removal of the pathogenic venous channels owing to the micro sizes of these structures.

The new microsurgical technique (MSV) makes use of an operating microscope and microsurgical instruments to correctly identify these microstructures and aid in the preservation of the testicular blood supply and lymphatic channels and to completely remove the pathogenic venous channels, the results of which are truly encouraging. The semen quality improvement rate is over ninety percent and pregnancy rates stand at around eighty percent. More importantly, the complication rate is negligible with 0.2 -1%. The other advantage of MSV is that it is much less painful when compared to TV ligation and the patient can be back to work on the third day of surgery. Even today over 98 % of patients undergo TV ligation, as a result of the low awareness of the advantages of this procedure.
